Trockene Flussbetten schl\u00e4ngeln sich durch zerkl\u00fcftete T\u00e4ler. Klein-Aus Vista liegt in der Sukkulenten Karoo, der artenreichsten W\u00fcste der Welt. Die verschiedenen Trails liegen auf einer H\u00f6he von 1250 bis 1700 m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel. Begegnungen mit Klippspringern oder Kudus sind keine Seltenheit, absoluter H\u00f6hepunkt ist jedoch der atemberaubende Blick \u00fcber die Namib. <\/p>\n<p>Verschiedene Routen zwischen 18 und 60 km stehen zur Auswahl, gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils Singletrails oder unbefestigte Wege durch die Ausberge. Die Singletrails decken sich mit Wanderwegen. Bitte nehmen Sie R\u00fccksicht auf Wanderer.<\/p>\n<p>Die Wege folgen teilweise historischen Pfaden, die im Ersten Weltkrieg von Schutztrupplern gebaut wurden. Mit Maultieren und Ochsenwagen transportierten sie Versorgungsg\u00fcter und Wasser zu ihren Stellungen am Westrand der Berge. Passieren Sie das Tor. An der Kreuzung biegen Sie links ab. Hier beginnt ein 5 km langer Singletrail-Anstieg in s\u00fcdliche Richtung. Nach Durchfahren eines weiteren Tors folgt ein sehr steiler Anstieg mit engen Kurven, bei dem die meisten Biker vermutlich absteigen und ihr Fahrrad schieben m\u00fcssen. Nach weiteren 1,3 km erreichen Sie eine Kreuzung, die auf Ihrer Karte als Water Point B gekennzeichnet ist. Biegen Sie links ab und r\u00fcsten Sie sich f\u00fcr einen steilen 300 m langen Anstieg. Sie befinden sich auf einer historischen Nachschubroute der deutschen Schutztruppe.<\/p>\n<p>Nach 3,4 km erreichen Sie eine weitere Kreuzung (Water Point A). Hier k\u00f6nnen Sie zwischen einer l\u00e4ngeren und einer k\u00fcrzeren Route w\u00e4hlen. Wenn Sie nach links abbiegen, geht es 7,5 km bergab durch das Dorf Aus. Bei Ihrer R\u00fcckkehr zur Lodge sind Sie 18 km gefahren.<\/p>\n<p>Wenn Sie l\u00e4nger unterwegs sein wollen, biegen Sie bei Water Point A rechts ab in Richtung Nemesis. Etwa 300 m vor Erreichen des Nemesis-Aussichtspunktes biegen Sie links in den 5 km langen Singletrail, dabei \u00fcberqueren Sie eine Holzbr\u00fccke. Kurz bevor Sie die zweite Br\u00fccke, eine Stahlbr\u00fccke, erreichen, haben Sie bei Water Point C die Qual der Wahl.<\/p>\n<p>Option 1 beginnt mit einer \u00e4u\u00dferst anspruchsvollen, 2 km langen und steilen Abfahrt bis zum Fu\u00df des Berges. Sie ist nichts f\u00fcr schwache Nerven! Danach geht es auf einer Farmstra\u00dfe 12 km weit am Eagle\u2019s Nest entlang zum Farm-Reservoir. Von dort aus folgen Sie den orangen Pfeilen zum Checkpoint, biegen rechts ab zu Water Point B und folgen den orangen Pfeilen zu Water point A. Hier fahren Sie links und durch Aus zur\u00fcck zum Desert Horse Inn. Diese Strecke ist 45 km lang.<\/p>\n<p>Option 2 f\u00fchrt Sie von Water Point C \u00fcber die Stahlbr\u00fccke auf den Nemesis-Aussichtspunkt. Ihre Rast dort oben haben Sie sich nach dem steilen Anstieg redlich verdient. Danach geht es 5 km steil abw\u00e4rts, bis Sie die als Water Point B gekennzeichnete Kreuzung erreichen. Biegen Sie rechts ab und folgen Sie einem steilen 300 m Teilst\u00fcck, bis Sie zum zweiten Mal auf die Kreuzung am Water Point A treffen. Wenden Sie sich nach links und nehmen Sie die 7,5 km lange Abfahrt ins Dorf Aus, vorbei an Andrew &amp; Sons, Namib Garage und Bahnhof Hotel. Nach Passieren der katholischen Kirche und der Eisenbahnschienen erreichen Sie eine Teerstra\u00dfe. Wenn sich die Stra\u00dfe gabelt, nehmen Sie die Schotterstra\u00dfe und fahren 500 m, bis Sie das letzte Haus auf der rechten Seite hinter sich gelassen haben. Dann sehen Sie den Wei\u00dfen Pfeil, der nach rechts zum Aus-Reservoir weist. Wenn Sie das Reservoir hinter sich gelassen haben, kommen Sie zum Tor der Farm Kubub. Nach 7 km erreichen Sie die Kreuzung, die als Water Point A auf der Karte eingezeichnet ist. Biegen Sie rechts ab und folgen Sie f\u00fcr 3,4 km dem unbefestigten Weg. Bevor Sie Water Point B erreichen, m\u00fcssen Sie eine steile, schwierige Abfahrt meistern. Bitte beachten Sie die Downhill-Warnschilder und fahren Sie vorsichtig. An der Kreuzung mit dem Water Point B-Schild haben Sie zwei Streckenoptionen: Die k\u00fcrzere Route rechts f\u00fchrt Sie \u00fcber einen 7 km Singletrail am Campingplatz entlang zum Desert Horse Inn zur\u00fcck (ingesamt 18 km).<\/p>\n<p>Wenn Sie gern die l\u00e4ngere Strecke fahren wollen, biegen Sie links ab und folgen einem anstrengenden 4,7 km langen Singletrail, an dessen Ende der Nemesis-Aussichtspunkt auf Sie wartet. Nehmen Sie sich die Zeit f\u00fcr eine Atempause bei gro\u00dfartiger Aussicht. Weiter geht es mit einer kurzen Abfahrt. Biegen Sie scharf rechts ab, es folgt ein weiterer Singletrail-Anstieg. \u00dcberqueren Sie die Stahlbr\u00fccke; falls Sie sich dabei unwohl f\u00fchlen, steigen Sie ab. Bei den weiteren 500 m bergauf \u00fcberqueren Sie eine Holzbr\u00fccke. Danach folgt der Singletrail einem Bergr\u00fccken mit einem steilen Anstieg und einer Abfahrt in Richtung Nemesis. 300 m vor Nemesis biegen Sie scharf rechts ab und fahren f\u00fcr 2,5 km auf einem relativ flachen Singletrail (Richtung Water Point A auf der Karte). Biegen sie links in den unbefestigten Weg ein. Nach 3,4 km erreichen Sie Water Point A an einer Kreuzung. Hier biegen Sie links ab und folgen einem anstrengenden Singletrail am Campingplatz vorbei zum Desert Horse Inn.<\/p>\n<p>Bei Kilometer 30 haben Sie am Campingplatz die M\u00f6glichkeit, links abzubiegen und eine weitere 12 km Schleife \u00fcber eine Farmstra\u00dfe am Eagle&#8217;s Nest vorbei zu Water Point C zu fahren. Seien Sie gewarnt: Hier wartet bei Kilometer 42-44 ein sehr steiler, technisch anspruchsvoller Anstieg, bei dem Sie vermutlich auf den ersten 150 m ihr Bike schieben m\u00fcssen. Bei Water Point C biegen Sie nach rechts in Richtung Water Point A ab. Von dort geht es weiter zu Water Point B und am Checkpoint vorbei zur Lodge. Von Parkplatz des Desert Horse Inn fahren Sie in \u00f6stliche Richtung, kreuzen die Bahngleise und folgen f\u00fcr 1 km der Distriktstra\u00dfe bis zu einigen wei\u00dfen F\u00e4ssern. Halten Sie Ausschau nach der Markierung und biegen Sie rechts ab. Sie \u00fcberqueren abermals die Bahngleise und kommen an zwei Windr\u00e4dern vorbei. Weiter geht es durch ein sandiges Trockenflussbett. Hier beginnt der Singletrail. Viel Spa\u00df!<\/p>\n<p>Ab Kilometer 4 wird es technisch anspruchsvoll mit kurzen, steilen Anstiegen und Abfahrten an Granith\u00e4ngen. Fahren Sie vorsichtig. Wenn Sie am Aus-Wasserturm vorbeikommen, folgen Sie dem grauen Pfeil und biegen Sie rechts ab. Vor ihnen liegt ein 400 m langer, steiler Anstieg. Wenn Sie es bis oben geschafft haben, k\u00f6nnen Sie sich bei einer angenehmen, 1 km langen Abfahrt durch ein Trockenflussbett erholen, der ein schrittweiser Anstieg an einem Zaun entlang folgt. Das letzte Teilst\u00fcck ist sehr steil mit einer scharfen Linkskurve und stellt selbst f\u00fcr erfahrene Mountainbiker eine Herausforderung dar. Wenn Sie es geschafft haben, g\u00f6nnen Sie sich eine Pause und genie\u00dfen Sie den Blick \u00fcber das Dorf Aus.<\/p>\n<p>Danach hei\u00dft es: Aufgepasst! Die holprige Abfahrt \u00fcber Granitfelsen ist mit Vorsicht zu genie\u00dfen, im letzten Teil m\u00fcssen Sie einige Spitzkehren bew\u00e4ltigen. Das Desert Horse Inn kommt in Sicht und nach einigen kurzen Anstiegen passieren Sie das Tor (bitte schlie\u00dfen). Weiter geht es mit zwei kniffligen Kehren hinunter in ein sandiges, trockenes Flussbett. Hier m\u00fcssen Sie noch einmal kr\u00e4ftig in die Pedale treten, bevor Sie durch ein kleines Tor fahren und den Parkplatz des Desert Horse Inn erreichen.<\/p>\n<p>Ja, Sie k\u00f6nnen zufrieden sein. The altitude varies from 1250m to close to 1700m.a.s.l. Cyclists will be able to spot klipspringers or the occasional kudu en-route, but the grand vistas over the Namib are by far the highlight.<\/p><p>There is a choice of different routes and lapses: varying from 18km to 60km. The trails mostly consist of narrow challenging single track paths as well as jeep tracks through the Aus Mountains. The single track routes also follow the hiking trails. Please be careful when approaching hikers on the trails.<\/p><p>The Jeep tracks used to be historic transport routes and were built by the Schutztruppe during World War I. With the help of mules and oxen provisions and water were supplied to the entrenchments at the western foothills. Pass through a gate and at the junction turn right and then left to start with a 5km single track climb in a southerly direction. After entering through another gate, you will encounter a steep climb with sharp turns and most cyclists will probably have to dismount and push the bike a bit. Carry on for another 1.3km until you get to a junction with a sign water point B: turn left and attack a steep climb for the first 300 meters. You are now on the historic German transport route.<\/p><p>Follow the track for 3.4km until you reach another junction indicated as water point A. If you decide to turn left and to follow a 7.5km down-hill stretch through the village of Aus, you will have completed a loop of 18km upon return to the lodge.<\/p><p>If you decide to go on a longer ride, please turn right at the junction towards the granitic outcrop of Nemesis. About 300m before the Nemesis view point, turn left and follow the 5km single track, crossing a wooden bridge. Just before reaching the second bridge you have the option to descend on a very tricky 2km steep down-hill stretch to the foot of the mountain. Beware this is a very rough downhill! Follow now 12km of farm road past Eagles Nest to the farm reservoir, then follow the orange arrows to the sign indicated as check point. Turn right to water point B, then follow the arrows to water point A where you turn left to ride back through Aus to Desert Horse Inn. You completed a loop of 45km.<\/p><p>The 2nd option at Water point C would be to carry on over the steel bridge until you reach the Nemesis view point. Stop and enjoy the sweeping vistas over the desert. After this break, carry on straight on a technical downhill track for 5km in order to reach the junction indicated as water point B. Turn right onto a steep 300m stretch in order to reach the junction indicated as water point A for a second time. Turn left and follow the 7.5km down-hill stretch through the village of Aus, past Andrew & Sons, Namib Garage and Bahnhof Hotel. Pass the reservoir to reach the gate to the farm Kubub, carry on riding for about 7km to the junction indicated as water point A on the map. Turn right to continue on the jeep track for 3.4km. Before reaching water point B you will descend on a steep tricky downhill track (the downhill signs will warn you) - please take care. At the junction at the water point B sign you have the option to either turn right in order to follow a taxing 7km single track past the campsite back to Desert Horse Inn (a loop of 18km). For a longer ride, turn left to follow a wearing 4.7km climb on a single track after which you reach the Nemesis viewpoint. Stop and enjoy the grand vistas.<\/p><p>After this breath catcher, continue on a short downhill stretch. Then sharply turn right and once again follow the single track climb. You will reach a steel bridge which you have to cross (for those who are not comfortable \u2013 please rather get off the bike and lift your bike over the fence). From here, continue to climb for another 500m to cross another wooden bridge. Continue on a single track which follows a mountain ridge with one steep climb and then descend in a westerly direction towards Nemesis. 300m before Nemesis make a sharp turn to the right and continue on a flat single track for 2.5km in order to reach again the junction indicated on the map as water point A. Turn left to continue again on the jeep track for 3.4km, to reach the water point. At the junction, turn right to follow a taxing 7km single track past the campsite back to Desert Horse Inn. At the Campsite you have an option at kilometre 30 to deviate left in order to add another 12km of farm road past Eagles Nest to water point C. Expect a very steep tiring technical climb from kilometres 42-44. Be prepared to push your bike for 150m on the first part of the climb.<\/p><p>At Water point C turn right and follow the track to water point A, then B past the Checkpoint to the Finish at Desert Horse Inn.
